STEYR.ART.WEEK. enters its third edition, transforming the city for a week into a vibrant field of experimentation. Regional and international artists present works that surprise, unsettle, and inspire – and above all seek dialogue. Exhibitions and performances form merely the framework for the actual goal: to create encounters that would otherwise hardly be possible.

With Barbara Steininger-Wetzlmair, a native of Steyr takes over the artistic direction, bringing fresh impulses through her experience and her close personal connection to the city.

"I was very pleased to be invited to curate STEYR.ART.WEEK. My motivation is both personal and substantive in nature," says Steininger-Wetzlmair. "On the one hand, despite having my main base in Vienna and the Waldviertel, I feel strongly connected to Steyr – through my family, friendships, and roots that I have never lost. On the other hand, the theme of vacancy corresponds to a central field of interest in my curatorial work," the new curator explains. Her experience as founder of the Offspace Woodquarter, which deliberately opens up new forms of exchange beyond traditional white-cube settings, also shapes her approach to STEYR.ART.WEEK. "I am interested in the question of what vacancy means beyond purely economic factors: what social, cultural, and atmospheric dimensions does it bring with it?" Steininger-Wetzlmair describes her curatorial and artistic approach.
